Chiropractic is a drug and surgery free modality of treatment concerned with the diagnosis, management and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system (spine); this includes the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health.

Sciatica is pain that travels along the sciatic nerve, which runs from your lower back through the hips and down each leg. It is not a condition in itself. It is a symptom of something pressing on or irritating that nerve, most often a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, or another form of nerve compression.
At Franklin Chiropractic and Physiotherapy Center in Jumeirah Lake Towers, we assess what is causing the compression and treat that, rather than only managing the pain. Care is non-surgical and drug-free.
Sciatica presents differently from person to person, ranging from a mild ache to sharp, disabling pain. The most common signs are:
✅ Pain radiating from the lower back into the buttocks and down one leg
✅ Pain that worsens with prolonged sitting, sudden movement, or coughing
✅ Numbness, tingling, or a pins-and-needles sensation in the affected leg
✅ Weakness in the leg or foot
✅ Restricted movement in more severe cases
Sciatica usually affects one side. Recognising it early matters, because the longer a nerve stays compressed, the longer recovery tends to take.
The pain is the symptom. The cause sits in the spine, and identifying which one applies to you determines the treatment:
Assessment comes first. We take your history, examine how you move, and identify which structure is compressing the nerve. Treatment is then matched to that finding, and usually combines more than one approach.
Chiropractic adjustment. Controlled, targeted adjustment of the lower spine to restore joint movement and reduce pressure on the nerve root.
Non-surgical spinal decompression. For disc-related sciatica, spinal decompression therapy gently reduces the disc pressure compressing the nerve. This is one of the more effective non-surgical options where a disc is the cause.
Physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Physiotherapy addresses the muscle imbalances and weakness that let the problem recur. This includes manual therapy, stretching for tight hip and hamstring muscles, and core strengthening to support the lower spine.
Trigger point and soft tissue work. Releases the surrounding muscle tension that often accompanies sciatic pain and contributes to it.
Most patients are treated with a combination of these rather than one alone, because reducing the compression and rebuilding the support around it address different halves of the same problem.
Recovery time depends on the cause and how long the nerve has been compressed. Many patients notice meaningful improvement within a few weeks of starting treatment, though disc-related cases often take longer than postural ones.
Two things make a measurable difference to how quickly you recover: keeping to the treatment plan rather than stopping as soon as the pain eases, and doing the exercises you are given between sessions. Sciatica that is treated only when it flares tends to return.
Once the acute pain settles, the aim is keeping it settled:
✅ Break up long periods of sitting, particularly at a desk
✅ Stretch the lower back, hips, and hamstrings regularly
✅ Strengthen your core, which supports the lumbar spine
✅ Check your workstation setup, since posture is a common aggravating factor in Dubai’s desk-based work culture
✅ Lift with your legs rather than your lower back
Sciatica is treated here by chiropractors and physiotherapists working together, which matters because most cases need both the compression reduced and the surrounding support rebuilt. Founder Dr. Madelaine Franklin has over 20 years of international experience, and the team includes practitioners focused on disc conditions and chronic lower back pain. Practitioner backgrounds are on our team page.

Sciatica frequently occurs alongside other lower spine problems. If your symptoms extend beyond leg pain, these may also apply: low back pain and disc herniation.
Treatment plans for sciatica typically combine manual therapy with targeted exercise and, in some cases, non-surgical spinal decompression.
Non-surgical spinal decompression therapy relieves the nerve root compression that causes sciatica. Neurokinetic therapy is then used to identify and correct the compensatory movement patterns that develop as a result of the pain. Sciatica treatment plans often combine multiple disciplines. If you’re trying to decide whether to see a chiropractor or physiotherapist for sciatica, our comparison guide walks through the practical differences.
We combine chiropractic and physiotherapy under one roof, ensuring a complete approach to your recovery.

What is sciatica?
Sciatica is pain along the sciatic nerve, running from the lower back through the hips and down the leg. It is a symptom of nerve compression, not a condition in its own right. The usual causes are a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, or other nerve compression.
Can sciatica be treated without surgery?
In most cases, yes. Chiropractic adjustment, spinal decompression, and physiotherapy address the cause of the compression without surgery or long-term medication. Surgery is generally considered only where non-surgical care has not resolved the problem.
How long does sciatica take to recover?
It varies with the cause and how long the nerve has been compressed. Many patients improve within weeks, though disc-related sciatica typically takes longer than sciatica driven by posture or muscle imbalance.
Does sitting make sciatica worse?
Often, yes. Prolonged sitting increases pressure on the lower spine and is one of the most common aggravating factors, particularly for desk-based work.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book an assessment directly.
