Dry Needling Treatment

Dr Madelaine Higgs Chiropractic Dry NeedlingDry Needling Treatment makes use of solid filoform needles for the treatment of muscle pain.

Very similar to acupuncture, dry needling treatment focuses more on the trigger points causing pain.

The treatment involves a filiform needle inserted into the skin and muscle directly at a muscle trigger point or pain area.

These trigger point consist of multiple contraction knots resulting in pain and discomfort felt.

Proper use of dry needling results in the muscle fibers resultant relaxing of contracted muscles, increasing circulation and lymphatic drainage, and stimulating the stretch reflex of muscles and overlying soft tissue.

Dr Madelaine Higgs Chiropractic Dry NeedlingA spasmed muscle becomes a damaged muscle. Spasm reduces blood flow in the muscle. This means less oxygen and nutrients to the muscle. Muscle fibres die off and get replaced by fibrous scar tissue.

This in turn holds the muscle tight, prevents muscle metabolites from leaving the muscle and causes continued spasm and pain. Putting a needle into a spasmed muscle causes the muscle to relax.
